✨ *Introduction*
Dal Tadka is a classic Indian comfort meal—light, flavourful, and perfect for a wholesome lunch. Made with toor dal and a ghee-rich tadka, it pairs beautifully with rice or roti.
📝 *Ingredients*
*For the Dal*
➡️ 1 cup toor dal
➡️ 3 cups water
➡️ 1 tomato, chopped
➡️ 1 green chilli, slit
➡️ ½ tsp turmeric
➡️ Salt to taste
*For the Tadka*
➡️ 2 tbsp ghee or oil
➡️ 1 tsp cumin seeds
➡️ 4–5 garlic cloves, sliced
➡️ 2 dry red chillies
➡️ A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
➡️ 1 tsp red chilli powder
➡️ Fresh coriander for garnish
👩🍳 *Step-by-Step Instructions*
*Step 1: Cook the Dal*
1. Rinse the toor dal 2–3 times.
2. Add dal, water, tomato, green chilli, turmeric, and salt to a pressure cooker.
3. Pressure cook for 3–4 whistles until the dal becomes soft.
4. Lightly mash the dal and keep aside.
*Step 2: Prepare the Tadka*
1. Heat ghee in a small pan on medium flame.
2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
3. Add sliced garlic and sauté until golden brown.
4. Add dry red chillies and hing.
5. Switch off the flame and quickly add red chilli powder.
(This keeps the colour bright and prevents burning.)
*Step 3: Combine*
1. Pour the hot tadka over the cooked dal.
2. Stir gently and simmer the dal for 1 minute.
3. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
🍴 *Serving Suggestions*
