🍲 *Toor Dal Tadka – Comforting Indian Lentil Curry*
✨ A simple, wholesome, and flavorful lentil dish made with pigeon peas (toor dal), tempered with ghee, spices, and herbs. Perfect with steamed rice or roti for a hearty meal!
📝 *Ingredients*
*For Cooking Dal:*
👉 1 cup Toor Dal (Pigeon Pea Lentils)
👉 2 ½ cups Water
👉 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
👉 Salt – to taste
*For Masala:*
👉 2 tbsp Ghee / Oil
👉 1 medium Onion – finely chopped
👉 2 medium Tomatoes – chopped
👉 2 Green Chilies – slit
👉 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
👉 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
👉 2 Dry Red Chilies
👉 A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
👉 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
👉 1 tsp Coriander Powder
👉 ½ tsp Garam Masala
👉 Fresh Coriander Leaves – chopped
*For Final Tadka (Optional):*
👉 1 tbsp Ghee
👉 ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
👉 A pinch of Asafoetida
👉 ½ tsp Red Chili Powder
👩🍳 *Instructions*
*Step 1: Cook the Dal*
1. Wash and soak the toor dal for 20 minutes.
2. Pressure cook with water, turmeric, and salt for 3–4 whistles until soft.
3. Mash the dal slightly and keep aside.
*Step 2: Prepare the Masala*
1. Heat ghee/oil in a pan.
2. Add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, and hing. Let them splutter.
3. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
4. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chilies.
5. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
6. Mix in red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala.
*Step 3: Combine Dal and Masala*
1. Add the cooked dal to the masala.
2. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes.
3. Adjust salt and consistency as needed.
*Step 4: Final Tadka (Optional)*
1. Heat ghee in a small pan.
2. Add cumin, hing, and red chili powder.
3. Pour this sizzling tempering over the dal.
